Elgar Fleisch is professor of information management at the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics at ETH Zürich. He is also professor for technology management and director of the Institute of Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen (ITEM-HSG).

After graduating at the Institution of Higher Technical Education in Engineering, Austria, Professor Fleisch, an Austrian citizen, studied business administration and computer science at the University of Vienna and wrote his Ph.D. thesis at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and the Institute for Advanced Studies in the area of artificial intelligence in production scheduling.

In 1994, Professor Fleisch started his work at the University of St. Gallen, focusing on Business Networking. From 1996 to 1997, he founded and served IMG Americas Inc. in Philadelphia, USA as its CEO. In 2000, he was accepted as assistant professor at the University of St. Gallen.

Today, Professor Fleisch conducts research on information management issues in the ubiquitously networked world, including the dynamics of information systems in conjunction with business processes and real world problems. Together with Prof. Friedemann Mattern of the Institute of Pervasive Computing at the ETH Zürich, he leads the M-Lab and co-chairs the Auto-ID labs, which specify the infrastructure for the “Internet of Things.” Professor Fleisch is also a co-founder of Intellion AG and synesix solutions AG, investment advisor at gcp gamma capital partners AG and a member of several steering committees in research, education, and industry.
